Innoventure
Innoventure High School
The Innoventure High School Challenge is a competitive event open to all middle school students throughout New Mexico and the El Paso, Texas, area.
Think like an entrepreneur and design a simple prototype out of an approved list of materials – all in a four-week timeframe that challenges you to put your team’s ideas to the test quickly and create an innovative product.
This year’s challenges will center around SPACE themes – Space, Agriculture, and Energy. Each round will focus on one of these broad areas, but the specific theme will only be revealed when the toolkit is released at the start of that round. The surprise is part of the challenge!
Three winning teams will be awarded prizes in each round and will advance to the final competition.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
With support from a teacher, parent, or other adult serving as your advisor, form a team of 2–5 middle school students.
Register your team and advisor using the links on this page. On the first day of each round, your team will receive a PDF toolkit that includes:
- The round’s official theme
- A list of approved materials for building your prototype
- Submission instructions
- Guidance to help your team prepare your pitch
To compete, teams will submit a video that:
- Demonstrates their prototype
- Explains the value added by the product
- Identifies a target market
- Proposes a price point for the product
- Describes how the product will be distributed
- Outlines how the product will be promoted
- Includes a logo for the team’s company
Teams that have not already won a round may enter again in future rounds. If a team wins a round and advances, they are not eligible to win again – but they may still submit for feedback and practice ahead of the final round.
RULES TO KNOW
- Videos must be no longer than 5 minutes.
- Each video will be scored based on a rubric included in the toolkit.
- Three winning teams will be selected for each SPACE round and will advance to the Innoventure Final Challenge Day at NMSU.
- Teams that win a round are not eligible to win again in later rounds but may continue to participate for feedback.
- At the Final Challenge, winning teams will receive a surprise theme that morning, work with a mentor to create a business idea and prototype, and pitch to judges that same day.
- There is no entry fee for teams to participate.
