Innoventure App Design Challenge
The Innoventure App Design Challenge is a competitive event open to middle school youths (grades 6-8), high school youths (grades 9-12), and adults in the El Paso Electric service area.
The App Design Challenge will culminate in the creation of functional apps that promote sustainability, energy efficiency, and environmental conservation. Participants will select the environmental challenges they want to address with their apps. Issues of high interest and importance in El Paso and in southern New Mexico include efficient use of scarce water sources, sustainable and efficient electric power use, high ozone levels, and reducing production of waste. Contest participants may develop apps on environmental stewardship topics that impact individuals, households, or employers of all sizes.
You do not need to know how to code to participate! Participants will be submitting a storyboard and a video pitch for their environmental stewardship app idea. 3 finalists and/or teams will be chosen from each age competition category to work in a hybrid format with app designers June 9-13, 2025, to design their MVP app.
Cohort Types
The Innoventure App Design Challenge consists of two phases and a showcase finale. These include idea submission, app creation, and app showcases. Participants will use creative thinking and technological innovation to address local environmental issues through their apps.
IDEA SUBMISSIONS
Entries will be accepted from individuals or teams of up to four people. The submission deadline is May 18th. Three finalist will be selected from each age group, prizes will be awarded to the finalist.
WORK WITH APP CREATORS
The Finalists will collaborate with a professionall app designer to develop a working prototype. They will participate in a hybrid format to create their apps from June 9th through June 13th.
SHOWCASE YOUR APP
Finalists will present their apps at a pop-up event in June, where they will showcase their work to the public. Judges will evaluate each prototype and select a winner from each group.
