Local Government Taxing Options
The State of New Mexico has a long history of implementing policies to enhance the state’s economy. Some of the policies have been successful to some degree and others have failed. It is also known that local policies, geared to local conditions and under the direction of local leaders, can have a larger impact on the local economy than broad state policies. In recognition of the need for local governments to be involved in economic development, the Local Economic Development Act was enacted. The purpose of this report is to provide the Lea County Community Improvement Corporation tax implementation options available under the New Mexico Local Economic Development Act (NMLEDA). The purpose of the NMLEDA is to provide a revenue stream that would allow local counties and communities to support local economic development efforts.
