Technology Commercialization Training

Welcome to the UC Commercialization Course, designed for university undergraduates, grad students, and community college students. This course offers a flexible learning experience, featuring six comprehensive modules. Each module includes a 10–15-minute presentation with PowerPoint slides, case studies, and videos. To reinforce your learning, each module ends with a quiz. The entire course can be completed in approximately 4 hours, with each module taking about 35 minutes, making it easy to fit into your busy schedule.

 

Course Modules

Module 1: Introduction to Technology Commercialization

Module 2: Lean Canvas

Learn about the Lean Canvas framework, a strategic tool for bringing technology to market. This module covers customer discovery, developing a strong value proposition, identifying revenue streams, and understanding cost structures. Real-world examples and interactive activities will help you apply these principles effectively.

 

Module 3: Intellectual Property Fundamentals

Understand the different types of intellectual property (IP) such as trade secrets, copyrights, trademarks, and patents. This module explains how to protect your ideas and innovations, ensuring you have the knowledge to secure your creations legally.

 

Module 4: Market Research & Customer Discovery

Gain skills in conducting market research and effective customer discovery. This module teaches you how to identify target markets, analyze competitors, and assess market potential. Learn how to define your product’s value proposition and gather valuable customer insights.

 

Module 5: Funding Your Technology

Explore various funding options, including dilutive (equity) and non-dilutive (grants, loans) methods. This module helps you understand the pros and cons of each funding type and how to choose the best option for your startup’s stage and goals.

 

Module 6: Pitching and Networking

Develop essential skills for pitching your technology and networking with industry professionals. This module covers how to create a compelling pitch, structure your presentation, and use networking strategies to build valuable connections.
