Arrowhead Park Executive Director Wayne Savage joined a panel of colleagues for a presentation on “Economic Opportunities for Municipalities” at the New Mexico Mayor’s Summit, held in Albuquerque on September 18th. The first event of its kind in the state, the Summit brought together more than 100 mayors from across New Mexico.

Savage shared a “boots on the ground” perspective on how Arrowhead Center has helped development around the state with “real programs for real people,” sharing a number of success stories that have emerged along the way. Savage spoke about a number of Arrowhead-affiliated businesses, including Remote Well Solutions, EcoSeal, ByteWare Apps, and NM Shrimp Co. He also provided highlights on a number of ongoing initiatives, such as the Aggie Shark Tank and CrucesKick.

Savage’s co-panelists included Jon Barela (Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Economic Development Department) and Dr. Raul Gouvea (Professor of Economics, University of New Mexico).

Other sessions included information on working with the New Mexico State Legislature, community safety, local media, utilities and energy issues, marketing strategies for municipalities, and statewide issues affecting mayors.

Savage noted, “It was an honor to be asked by Mayor Berry of Albuquerque to present the statewide work and successes of our Arrowhead Center innovation model, and share with the mayors of New Mexico how they can access the resources of New Mexico State University to benefit their own communities and potential startup businesses.”
