Genesis Center Business Incubator

Application Information

The Genesis Center Incubator offers commercial/office or laboratory space with shared services and business assistance integrated into the basic lease rate to encourage the development and growth of start-up companies with a synergy to New Mexico State University. Leasing policies and procedures differ from typical commercial leases since the Genesis Center utilizes a special selection process for resident and affiliate clients. To be considered for admission to the Genesis Center Incubator, companies should currently have or desire a relationship to New Mexico State University (NMSU) such as a new business formed around technology developed at NMSU, an existing business collaborating with faculty, or a potential relationship offering a mutually beneficial relationship with NMSU.

Applicants to the Genesis Center should demonstrate the following:

  • Willingness to complete an application and provide information sufficient for review by Arrowhead Center management including a venture concept or business plan that indicates potential for commercialization and growth, adequate technical information to assess the eventual product and the resume of the principal and key staff as well as a designated person to address finances and business planning issues for the company.
  • Strong potential for capitalization within a three year period.
  • Willingness to provide regular updates to Arrowhead Center management addressing agreed upon milestones through meetings and discussions.
  • A likelihood of commercial sales within a three to four year period or some other agreed upon measure of success.
  • Commitment to comply with state, federal and university rules and regulations as required.
  • Intentions to utilize Arrowhead Center support services and actively use the space.
  • A synergistic relationship with the university.
  • A desire to remain in New Mexico long term and a commitment to identify New Mexico locations as a priority upon leaving the program.
  • Non-competition with existing Genesis Center incubator clients based on the judgment of Arrowhead management.
  • Willingness to provide feedback on benefits or limitations of the Genesis Center.

As application materials are reviewed, there are key issues that will be considered when making a recommendation for admission to the program. They are:

Business concept – Does the business have a chance of succeeding – is the product or services needed in the local community? Does it do something better, faster, cheaper than past products, services or practices?

Business model –When and from whom the business gets paid?

Benefits to the university – Will acceptance of the company into the Genesis Center benefit NMSU in terms of providing training, employment and experience for students, research collaboration opportunities with faculty, and development and marketing of NMSU intellectual property?

Arrowhead and Genesis Center resources – Does the company need the services of the Arrowhead Center or linkages to the university to be successful?

If you have an interest in the Genesis Center Incubator and its unique environment to start-up and establish successful businesses, please complete the inquiry request form and you will be contacted by a member of the Arrowhead Center for additional information.
